Cameron Genealogy & History
Cameron is a Scottish surname with two main origins. The first, in Scotland itself, is either a nickname, with cam meaning crooked or bent and sron meaning nose, or a locational name, with the same cam and bron meaning hill. The second is a town named Cambernon in Normandy, which contributed to a Scottish name through the Auld Alliance between Scotland and France. Cameron family history comes into existence with Adam de Kamerun in 1214, witnessing a charter to a monastic order, and there are several variations on that spelling in the succeeding decades. Cameron genealogy includes British Prime Minister David Cameron and American actor Kirk Cameron.
