Campbell Genealogy & History
Campbell is a Scottish surname from the Gaelic "caimbeul", meaning "crooked mouth". Campbell family history begins with Clan Campbell. The name was Duibhne or O'Duine, oddly enough, and the P was not added until 1390. The first recorded member of the clan, using the name, was Gillespic Cambel in 1263, as part of the Exchequer Rolls of Scotland. Campbell is also the family name of the Dukes of Argyll from 1445 to the present. Other distinguished members of Campbell family history include Colorado Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell, science fiction editor John W. Campbell, and actress Neve Campbell.
