Keller Genealogy & History
Keller is an Irish name, an anglicized form of the Old Gaelic patronymic O'Ceileachair, meaning son of a companionable person. The O'Ceileachair clan were Dalcassians living in what is now County Clare in the province of Munster in southwest Ireland. Keller family history supposedly starts with Ceileachar, nephew of Irish King Brian Boru, but the first recorded incident is Donough O'Ceileachair, Bishop of Ossery, noted in 1048 in the Ecclesiastical Records of Ireland. Keller genealogy includes several noteworthy individuals, such as Russian General Fyodor Keller, blind and deaf author Helen Keller, and Canadian WWII General Rodney Keller.
