Kramer Genealogy & History
Kramer is originally a Flemish name brought to England by French and Flemish Huguenots fleeing religious persecution during the 16th and 17th centuries. It comes from the German Kramer, meaning a tradesman, particularly one taking dairy products from the farms to the markets in a Cram, or a pack on his back. That in turn comes from the Old German kram/cram, meaning a trading post. Kramer family history enters the books with the christening of Abraham Creme in 1552 at St. Margaret's, Westminster. A few well-known members of Kramer genealogy are Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer, Soviet spy Charles Kramer, and Bergen-Belsen commander Josef Kramer.
