Rose Genealogy & History

Rose is an English, Scottish, French, and German surname, from the Normanization of the German name Hrodheid, a compound of hrod, for bright, and heid for kind. It was brought to the British Isles after the Battle of Hastings. A prominent Scottish family took the name, though there it derived from de Ross, which itself was from a town in Normandy named Rots. Rose family history enters the books with Muriel de Roys, noted in 1333 in a genealogy of the family of Rose of Kilravock. Prominent members of Rose genealogy include interviewer Charlie Rose, founding Village Person Felipe Rose, and notorious baseball player Pete Rose.
