Womack Genealogy & History
Womack is an English name with unclear origins. Possibly, it was originally derived from the Old English female given name Wulerun and the word ac, meaning oak tree. Alternately, it could be related to the Dutch name Walmack, which was derived from the Middle Dutch word walmac(k)e meaning twig, used as a nickname for a thin person. In any event, some of the earliest records of Womack family history show them as lords of the manor at Norfolk. Another early figure from Womack genealogy was William Whomac (an alternate spelling) who was a christening witness at Lincolnshire in 1584.
