Indiana Genealogy & LDS Family History Centers

Indiana residents in search of their ancestry roots can begin their search at one of the largest resource facilities in the world. Indiana family history centers are offshoots of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City - the largest of its kind in the world. The Indiana offices are also operated by the Indiana LDS Church and staffed by a team of knowledgeable volunteers that are committed to the art of genealogy. On your first visit to one of these offices, you can peruse print publications, microfiche and even computer websites to discover who your ancestors were and where your family tree began.

If you have any questions or comments about family history centers, please send a message to [email protected].

Indiana Genealogy Resources

The Indiana Territory was organized in 1800 and the first and only territorial census was conducted in 3 counties in 1807. If you have ancestors living in Indiana prior to 1850, they may have lived in the Southern part of the state, which was where most of the early settlement was. One of the most well know of Indiana's repositories is the Allen County Public Library, but don't let its name fool you, this library is a major genealogical research center and is important for anyone conducting genealogical research, not just those with Hoosier ancestors. Some of Allen County's books have been digitized and can be found on the websites Internet Archive and the BYU Family History Archives.
