Some of the facts you will find in the archive include the first, middle and last name of the person, as well as the official date and location of the birth. When available, the records will also list the first and last name of the mother. The Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives holds Kentucky's city, county and state government records, including: birth records from 1852 to 1910; death records from 1911 to 1959; marriage records; census and military records; judicial records; wills and deeds; and state agency records. All of the records contained in this collection have a permanent retention, meaning that they will never be destroyed. You can visit the Archives Research Room in person, or access the information online. Requests for specific documents can also be mailed to the address listed above.

The Archives Research Room of the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives is open to the public Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All visitors must register with security before entering the Archives Research Room. If you live within the state of Kentucky, there is a "search and copy" fee for each genealogical reference request. Those living out of state and requesting copies of official documents are assessed a $15 fee. If you are searching for birth certificates that date prior to 1911, they can be found according to city, and then downloaded and viewed on the website for the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives.
