The Missouri State Archives is responsible for maintaining records of "permanent historical value" from 1770, including legislative, executive, and judicial records, along with land records, military records, state publications, photographic collections, county and municipal records (which are available on microfilm), and manuscript and reference collections.

Researchers can peruse these impressive archives through the Missouri State Archives' research room. There are currently more than 336 million paper records pages, 400 photographs, 9,000 maps, 61,000 microfilm reels, and 500 cubic feet of published state documents available through the Missouri State Archives. The research room houses all of the published materials and microfilm, but if you need to access records from the archives' stacks on Thursday evenings, Saturdays and holidays, you must place your request to do so in advance.
