About the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services

The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services is responsible for storing the birth and death records for the state, which date back to July 1, 1911. The Office of Vital Records within the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services is responsible for both storing and handling requests for copies. Individuals may also contact the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services regarding marriage and divorce certificates, and the Office of Vital Statistics can perform a search for the record in question.

Birth and death certificates are not considered public information and will not be released by the Office of Vital Statistics unless the person on record makes the request (for birth certificates) or a spouse or blood relative makes the request. Marriage licenses and certificate records are not protected, however, and anyone may request a marriage record. Marriage records are stored by individual county recorders but can be accessed by the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services.

Individuals may make a search request for marriage certificates that are filed within Nevada to the Office of Vital Statistics within the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services.
