Approximately 25,000 people populate the Parish which labels itself Gateway to Cajun Country due to its northerly location. The Parish is home to the West Bay Wildlife Management Area, a 60,000 acre game preserve that holds wild deer, turkeys, smaller game, and others. 1,500 are available for hunting, and the area is also a prime location for camping.
