Copies are maintained at the Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Vital Statistics Division. Texas birth records are protected for 75 years and death records for 25 years; only family members can obtain certified copies, but anyone can get a verification letter. Certified copies cost $23.00 for birth certificates, $21.00 for death certificates, and $21.00 for marriage licenses.
