While the Attala County Chancery Clerk handles the property, marriage, and divorce records for the area, the Mississippi State Department of Health has a Vital Records Department that handles the birth and death records for the state. The department, which provides the appropriate forms to apply for copies of birth and death certificates, maintains records dating from late 1912 to the present. Both the Attala County Chancery Clerk's and the Department of Health's Vital Record Department's offices are open to the public who wish to apply for copies of records, as well as perform research on those available. The Attala Historical Society also encourages researchers to contact them and avail themselves of the genealogical and historical resources the Society has on hand.
