South Carolina vital records are confidential; certified copies are released to family only, and can be obtained in person, by mail, or by phone, or online through VitalChek. The Church of England had parishes throughout South Carolina, and the church records include christening and burials dating to 1706. The South Carolina Department of Archives and has some historical South Carolina death records and other genealogical vital records dating to 1641.
