The Buchanan County Recorder of Deeds, the department responsible for indexing property and marriage records, as well as military discharges, offers an Official Records Public Search
program that contains information recorded at the office from 01/01/1990. To access older records, those interested can visit the office in person in the Buchanan County Courthouse at 411 Jules St. in Rm 103 in St. Joseph, MO. Also in St. Joseph in Room 121 of the Courthouse is the Circuit Clerk, responsible for divorce records, as well as maintaining a small segment of birth records from 1883 to 1893. For additional birth records with a greater range of available dates, the City of St. Joseph Health Department
has them on file, as well as death certificates, at 904 South Tenth. To research records for the entire state online, the Missouri Digital Heritage
project provides a huge number of resources and genealogical records in a number of freely accessible databases.
