Callaway County, otherwise known as The Kingdom of Callaway after a confrontation county residents had with Union soldiers in the Civil War, is a well known winemaking area with vineyards and wineries plentiful throughout. Records for the county can be researched and obtained from a number of locations. The Recorder of Deeds is, among other duties, responsible for maintaining the property records for the area. The office, located at 10 E 5th Street in Fulton, MO, offers a subscription based online database
which provides access to a partial amount of the records the office has on file, as well as being open to the public for walk-in visits. The Callaway County Health Department
maintains and distributes vital records, such as birth and death certificates, however the state of Missouri is fairly strict as to who can obtain copies. Qualified individuals include the registrar himself, verified relatives, or legal representatives, with a couple other potential qualifications.
