Carbon County vital recordsIn Carbon County, birth and death records are available from 1906 to the present from the Division of Vital Records in New Castle. Marriage certificates can be obtained at the Register of Wills at the Carbon County Courthouse in Jim Thorpe. The cost is $5.00 for a certified copy. Divorce records may be obtained at the Prothonotary Office in the same building; the fee is $10.50 for a certified copy. Carbon County was created on March 13, 1843, from parts of Northampton and Monroe Counties and was named for the extensive deposits of coal in the region.
