In conjunction with several other counties in New York, as well as two in Pennsylvania and two in Connecticut, Chautauqua County offers a subscription based online records search system
. The system contains a large number of public documents, primarily real estate and deeds records, dating from the mid 1900s to the present. Payments for using the system can either be paid hourly or through a recurring subscription. The Clerk's department also has a large variety of records at its office including census records from 1825 to 1925, marriage records from 1908 to 1935, property records with greater ranges of dates than those available online, as well as other types. The Chautauqua County Historian
operates under the County Clerk and serves to help researchers, and review, preserve, and archive historical records. Many of the records within the archives date back to 1811, and they are all available for research.
