Cherokee County vital records for 1915-present are maintained by the Vital Records office at the Cherokee Public Health Department in Gaffney. The county office will perform a search and/or one certified copy for $12, ordered in person or by mail by family members only (online through VitalChek). The state Department of Health website provides a free index for 1915-1960 deaths. Death records prior to 1961, and all vital records 1641-1914 are available at the South Carolina Department of Archives and History in Columbia.
