Choctaw County vital recordsChoctaw County vital records can be requested in person or by mail from the Health Department in Hugo, the state Heath Department, or online via VitalChek. Copies cost $15, but there are restrictions if the person of record is living. While some records date to 1907, statewide recording was required in 1917, and compliance was not achieved until the 1940s. Historical records are available from the Oklahoma Historical Society or the Choctaw County Genealogical Society in Hugo. Divorce and marriage records are maintained by the County Clerk of Court. Choctaw was formed upon statehood in 1907 from Cedar, Jackson, Kiamichi, and Towson Counties, and from the Choctaw Nation.
