Birth, death, and marriage records are available only from 1909, when Corson County was created, but burial and cemetery records dating back to 1936. It was formed from parts of three counties (Schnasse, Dewey, and Boreman) and was named for Dighton Corson, a Justice of the South Dakota Supreme Court. In 2010, the population was about 67% American Indian.
