Crawford County vital recordsEven though Crawford County was established in 1826 and organized in 1879, the vital records department with the County Clerk has marriage, birth, and death records dating from before the official organization, from 1873 to the present. The County Clerk, which is located at 200 West Michigan Ave in Grayling, MI., allows up to three researchers at once, and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30AM until 4:30PM. Additionally, the Clerk offers certified copies of birth and death records through the mail. Copies cost $15 for the first, and $5 for additional copies of the same record. Individuals can make payments over the phone with a credit card.

Part of the Huron-Manistee National Forests, a nearly one million acre collection of protected forests and wetlands, are located within Crawford County. The forests have a huge amount of lakes, streams, and trails open to the public, making them a popular vacation and tourist destination.
