The Tennessee Vital Records Office (http://health.state.tn.us/vr/Genealogy.htm) keeps records of all births, deaths, marriages, and divorces that occur within Nashville and in Davidson County. Identification is required to obtain a certified copy of a birth or death certificate. Copies of birth certificates are $15.00 for the first copy and $5.00 for each additional copy. There is a $7.00 charge for death certificate copies. The Tennessee State Library Archives (http://www.tn.gov/tsla/history/county/factdavidson.htm) also houses vital records that are made available to the public by request.
