Locally, the Dent County Health Center is responsible for maintaining birth and death certificates, the Recorder of Deeds handles property and marriage records, and the Circuit Clerk is in charge of civil and criminal records, including divorces. All the offices are located in the county seat of Salem, with the Health Department at 601 South MacArthur, and the Recorder and Circuit Clerk both sharing space in the Dent County Judicial Building on 112 E. Fifth Street. At the state level, the Bureau of Vital Records with the Department of Health and Senior Services handles birth and death, as well as marriage and divorce records at the state level and is located in Jefferson City.
