Marriage records can be obtained at the Register and Recorder's Office in the Franklin County Courthouse in Chambersburg. Divorce decrees can be obtained at the Prothonotary Office in the same building a certificate of settlement is $5.00. Franklin County lies to a large extent within the Cumberland Valley. Franklin County became an independent jurisdiction on September 9, 1784. It was named in honor of Benjamin Franklin, one of the US's founding fathers.
