Anybody can purchase Greenbrier County birth records that are older than 100 years and death and marriage records that are older than 50 years from the Greenbrier County Clerk. Only family members can purchase more recent birth, death, and marriage records. They are available at the Health Statistics Center, usually for $12. Greenbrier County was created in 1777 from Montgomery and Botetourt Counties, Virginia. It was named for its principal river. Eleven counties were created, either in whole or in part, from its original territory. The first Englishmen entered modern Greenbrier County in 1742.
