Hancock County vital recordsHancock County non-public birth, death, and marriage records from 1917 to the present are available only to family members from the state Health Statistics Center. With few exceptions, public records include birth records older than 100 years, death and marriage records older than 50 years. The Hancock County Clerk maintains vital records before 1917, as well as divorce records. Hancock County was created in 1848 from Brooke County and named for Revolutionary War leader John Hancock, first signer of the Declaration of Independence. Robert Cavelier de La Salle, probably the first European to enter modern Hancock County, sailed down the Ohio River in 1669.
