Hockley County records are maintained by the Hockley County Clerk (http://www.co.hockley.tx.us/ips/cms/countyoffices/countyClerk.html), who keeps original copies of vital statistics, with copies maintained at the state level. State recordkeeping began in 1903. Records kept include birth and death certificates and marriage licenses. Certified copies of non-public records are provided only to qualified applicants, but anyone can obtain a verification letter. Certificate requests may be made at the local office, with application forms available at the website. Birth certificates are $23.00; death certificates are $21.00 for the first page and $4.00 for each additional page. Check or money order only. Patrons may also visit the Texas state website at http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/vs/default.shtm.
