Houston County vital recordsHouston County has a Recorder/Vital Statistics Department that is welcoming to researchers. The office is located in the County Courthouse on S Marshall St., in Caledonia, MN., and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00AM until 4:30PM. Individuals are welcome to peruse records which are part of the public record, which includes all death records, listed from 1870 till 1945, and marriage records, listed from 1854 until March, 1979. Birth records also begin in 1870 and continue to the present, however they carry much more restricted access. Property records are also available for research in the department, which is fully staffed and available to assist researchers for the cost of $20 an hour. Individuals are also referred to the Houston County Historical Society, also located in Caledonia, which has a complete stock of birth, death, marriage, and land records all on microfilm, along with genealogy and census records, and much more.
