Kalamazoo County vital recordsKalamazoo County has a genealogical research area that is fully staffed by volunteers from the Kalamazoo Valley Genealogical Society. The volunteers are in the office most days, however it is advised to call in advance. The department can also be emailed at [email protected]. Up to four researchers are allowed in the area at one time. In addition, the County offers their free online index search which has death records, marriage licenses, business and property records, as well as many other types, all available from 05/18/1908 to the present. Within the County Clerk office, the dates of availability are somewhat expanded, with death records available from 1867, and marriage records from 1831, one year after Kalamazoo was founded. Birth records are indexed from 1867 to the present, however records more recent than 110 years have restricted access. To research divorce records, individuals are directed to contact the 9th Circuit Court Clerk's Office at (616) 383-8837.
