Lake County, MI Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce Records

Lake County vital recordsLake County, so named for the abundant lakes in the region, has a vital records research area with very limited space in the County Clerk's office. Due to the space requirements, a maximum of two genealogists are allowed to research at one time, and it is advised to contact the Clerk's office prior to visiting. The office can be emailed at clerk@co.lake.mi.us. Death, marriage, property, and other records are all available starting in 1870 to the present. Birth records also begin in 1870, though viewing records dated more recently than 110 years require that individuals be verifiably related to the original owner of the certificate. Office staff is on-hand to retrieve records, and they charge a $7 fee to print certified copies of a record, along with a $3 fee for additional copies. The Lake County Clerk website provides applications for vital statistics for mail-in requests, and fees are payable online.
