Loup County is the 4th smallest county in the state with regards to population with about 630 residents, and about a third of those live in the only town in the county, Taylor, which is also the county seat. In Nebraska, if the population of a county is smaller than 20,000, several of the county government offices are generally combined, and in Loup County, the offices of the Register of Deeds, Assessor, County Clerk, and one other are placed together in one location in the county courthouse at 408 4th Street in Taylor. Many records are available for research there, although birth and death records are not. They are handled by the State Department of Health and Human Service's Office of Vital Records. The office is located in Lincoln, NE, the state capitol, and they are open Monday through Friday from 8:00AM till 5:00PM.
