South Dakota marriage records and South Dakota death records issued after July 1905 are available, for a fee and with proper government-issued photo identification, from the Vital Records office or at the Registry of Deeds (http://doh.sd.gov/VitalRecords/County/default.aspx) of the county where the marriage or divorce occurred. Marriages before 1970 are available in person and for same-day issuance only at the county of occurrence. State vital records may be ordered in person by personal check or money order made payable to South Dakota Department of Health; or online by credit card at http://www.vitalchek.com. Information on how to obtain certified copies, available to the individual listed on the record, spouse, child, parent, guardian, next of kin, an authorized or designated agent, or a person with personal or property rights, is also available at the South Dakota Department of Health website (http://doh.sd.gov/VitalRecords/).
