McClain County vital records date to 1907 when Oklahoma was granted statehood, but statewide registration was not mandatory until 1917 and compliance was not widespread until the 1940s. Records can be ordered for $15 by mail or in person from the county or state Health Departments, in Purcell and Oklahoma City respectively. If the person of record is alive, the birth record is restricted to family. The Clerk of Court in Purcell should be contacted for marriage or death records, and the Oklahoma Historical Society for historical records. McClain County, part of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Statistical Area, was a part of the Chickasaw Nation before statehood.
