Although recordkeeping was initiated in 1907, it was sporadic until the 1940s. Historical records are available at the Oklahoma Historical Society in Oklahoma City. Marriage and divorce records are unrestricted court records and are available from the Clerk of Court in Idabel. Originally part of Arkansas Territory in the 1820s, McCurtain then became part of the Choctaw Nation prior to its current organization effective 1907 with statehood.
