Moniteau County was founded in 1845, and the Moniteau County Historical Society has a large number of records on file at its Genealogy Library dating back till then. Some of the records at the library include a complete listing of local cemetery records, property records, copies of local newspapers on microfilm from 1858 to the present, and more. The library is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 1:00PM until 5:00PM, from April through October, and they accept appointments outside those hours. They are located at 201 N. High in the town of California, MO. Also in California are the Moniteau County Health Department, and the Clerk Circuit Court who acts as the Recorder of Deeds, as well. The Clerk is situated in Room 102 of the Moniteau County Courthouse on 200 E. Main Street, while the Health Department is on 401 South Francis.
