Newton County, TX Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce Records
Newton County vital records are kept at the County Courthouse in the city of Newton, the county seat. The County Clerk manages vital records for births and deaths (from 1903) and for marriages (from 1846), while the District Court takes care of divorce records. Instructions and examples for genealogical research may be found at TXGenWeb. Birth Indexes from 1926-1995 and Death Indexes from 1964-1998 were available; however, the State of Texas ordered the TXGenWeb Archives to remove all birth records after 1934 and all death records after 1984. The lands that now form Newton County were included in Lorenzo de Zavala's 1829 grant from the Mexican government.
