The Ochiltree County Clerk manages vital records for births, deaths and marriages in the Ochiltree County Courthouse in Perryton, the county seat; records date from the late 1800s. Divorce is handled by the District Clerk. In the early eighteenth century, Apaches were expelled from the region now known as Ochiltree County by the Comanche Indians; the Comanches dominated the Texas Panhandle until the 1870s. During the Red River War of 1874-75, nomadic Indians were forced into Indian Territory and the ranching era began.
