Copies cost $15, but are restricted if the person of record is living. Statewide recording was initiated in 1907, mandated in 1917, with compliance spotty until the 1940s. Historical records are available from the Oklahoma Historical Society. Divorce/marriage records dating to 1890 are maintained by the Clerk at the Oklahoma County Courthouse. Oklahoma County was founded on lands vacated by the Creek and Seminole (called the Unassigned Lands), opened to non-Indian settlers in the Land Run of 1889, and was originally called County Two.
