About 5,400 people reside there, and as such, the offices of the Register of Deeds and County Clerk are rolled together into a single position. The office is located in the Polk County Courthouse in the courthouse square of Osceola, NE, the county seat, and staff are hand to help find specific marriage and property records, among others. Birth and death records, dated from 1904, are kept at the state level by the Department of Vital Records which is operated by the Nebraska State Department of Health and Human Services. The department is in the state capitol of Lincoln and accepts walk-ins who wish to apply for certified copies of records. Additionally, the birth certificate application can be submitted online, while the death certificate application needs to be filled out either on a computer or by pen, then mailed or taken in person to the office.
