Pope County, MN Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce Records

Pope County vital recordsPope County, named for General John Pope, a well known Union General during the Civil War who had done surveying in the area prior, has its County Recorder office in the County Courthouse on 130 E. Minnesota Ave, in Glenwood, the county seat. While the office has vital records that are generally listed from approximately 1870, only certified copies are available to those with a tangible interest. Uncertified copies, however, are viewable and obtainable by anyone with an interest, and they are the best option for research purposes. The County Recorder lists the certified birth and death record application, both of which include the tangible interest form, on its website, as well as a link for those needing to obtain vital records from outside Minnesota. The Pope County Museum and History Center also has a variety of genealogical resources it makes available for public research, such as census records from 1870 to 1920, and more.
