Ripley County, MO Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce Records

Ripley County vital recordsWhile Ripley County is fairly large in overall land area, it used to be much larger, as it was founded in 1833 but continued to get whittled down as sections kept getting cut off and distributed to surrounding counties. It didn't reach its current size until 1872 when the state government decided it was done giving away pieces to other counties. The county seat was originally the town of Van Buren, but as the county kept getting divvied up, that town eventually wasn't even in Ripley anymore, so they residents decided to move the seat to Doniphan which is where it remained. Doniphan is where the Ripley County Courthouse is located, which houses the Recorder of Deeds and Clerk Circuit Court who handle, respectively, property and marriage records, among others, and criminal and civil, including divorce records. Also in Doniphan is the Ripley County Health Department, the local source of birth and death records.
