Despite its small size, and partially due to its proximity to New York City and Long Island, Rockland has the sizable population of about 310,000 residents as of 2010. The Genealogical Society of Rockland County, which makes its home in the New City Library, offers a variety of records on its website as well as at the library itself. The Society website includes a listing of all genealogical materials the library has on hand. It is located at 220 N Main Street in the county seat of New City, NY. The Rockland County Clerk is also in New City, in Suite 100 of the Rockland County Courthouse at 1 South Main Street. The Clerk's office is open from 7:00 in the morning until 6:00 in the evening, Monday through Friday.
