Sanilac County vital recordsSt. Clair County allows those interested in researching the genealogical and vital records for the area access to a research area in the County Clerk office, and also provides research assistants every day of the week except Mondays from the hours of 9:30AM until 2:30PM. Birth and death records listed with the county begin in 1868, continuing to the present. Marriage records begin in 1837, and divorces were recorded beginning in 1933, both continuing to the present. Only those birth records dated from 1868 until 1902 are part of the public record; to view those dated after 1902, individuals must prove relation to the registrant.

The St. Clair County Clerk's office also refers interested parties to a genealogy project for the area. The site lists death indexes and marriage records from the early to mid 1800s, along with census records, obituaries, and many other resources.
