Scott County vital recordsScott County, which is named for John Scott, Missouri's first Congressman, is located towards the southeastern corner of the state, bordering the Mississippi River. It has always been a large agricultural area due to the rich soil deposits from the river. The Scott County Historical and Genealogy Society operates out of the county seat of Benton and has a research room housed in the Benton Riverside Regional Library on 54 Winchester on Highway 61. The Society has a large number of records on its website, as well as an index of all the records on file at the library. The research room is open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 1:00PM until 6:00PM; appointments can be scheduled by email for Saturday and Wednesday mornings only. The Scott County Health Department, the center in charge of birth and death records, is at 102 Grove Estates Court in the town of Sikeston.
