Scott County vital recordsBoth the Scott County Chancery Clerk and the Circuit Clerk are located on 100 E First Street in the town of Forest, MS. The Chancery Clerk is the custodian of the land and divorce records for the county, and the Circuit Clerk indexes the marriage records. Birth and death records are not handled at the county level, and are instead dispensed by the vital records department maintained by the State Department of Health, which maintains marriage records, as well, in addition to the Circuit Clerk. The Mississippi Department of Archives and History exists primarily for research purposes and has a majority of records for the state either online or at its research library in Jackson, MS. The MDAH will perform research requests for those who are unable to visit the library in person, with one hour of research provided free to state residents, and $27 per hour for those who live elsewhere.
