Shiawassee County vital recordsThe Sanilac County Clerk, located in the county seat of Sandusky, MI., opens its genealogy research area on Wednesdays only, from 10:00AM to 12:00PM and again from 1:00PM to 3:00PM. Appointments are required beforehand due to the limited hours, as well as space restrictions which allow room for only two researchers at a time. Marriage, birth, and death records begin in 1867 and date to the present. All marriage and death indexes are part of the public record, as are birth records older than 110 years. In addition, divorce records begin in 1898, civil records in 1831, and criminal records in 1882, and all continue to the present and are available for public research. Certified copies of records cost $20 from the County Clerk office, and $10 for extra copies of the same record. Sanilac County also directs those wanting to obtain physical copies of records to the VitalChek service which offers all records purchasable with credit cards.
