Though Sioux County is one of the larger counties in the state as far as land area, it also has one of the smaller populations with about 1,300 residents. Because of that population, the duties of the Clerk of the District Court, County Clerk, and Register of Deeds are all performed in the same office in the County Courthouse in the county seat of Harrison, NE. Though birth and death records are not handled at the local county level, information regarding the Office of Vital Records
is provided. The office, which is operated by the Dept of Health and Human Services out of Lincoln, NE, has both birth and death records dated from 1904, as well as marriage and divorce records dated from about the same, from 1909. Vital records in Nebraska only become open to the public upon reaching 50 years old and older.
