Cemetery Record Listings

Cemetery records provide the names, birth and death dates of those buried within a particular cemetery. These records are not collected or distributed by the federal government but are publicly available through other, independent organizations. You can usually obtain cemetery records for free by following these steps:

STEP 1: Visit the USGenWeb Tombstone Transcription Project and select a state.

STEP 2: Select a county and cemetery of your choice.

STEP 3: Scroll through the listings to find the record you are looking for. Keep in mind that the database is composed of user-generated contributions and is therefore not a comprehensive account of all cemetery records.

Other Useful Cemetery Record Resources Include:

Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemeteries - Search all U.S. national cemeteries by state.

Nationwide Gravesite Locater - Use the gravesite locater to search for the burial locations of U.S. Veterans.
