This database is an index to civil and criminal case files for Weber County, Utah from 1852-1887, which at that time were under the jurisdiction of the Probate Court. This index was obtained from the Utah State Archives and is part of Series # 1593 of their collection. Most probate cases that are included in this index involve divorce, debt, larceny, and assault, but some of the others include theft, replevin, rape, murder, appeals, and disturbing the peace. Probate files such as guardianships, wills, and estate files that are usually associated with the Probate Court are not included in this index. Information provided in this database includes the names of the parties involved in the case, the case number, the date the case was filed, the case type, and a reference to the location of a copy of the original file located at the Archives. For more information about these records or to learn how to contact or visit the Archives, please visit their website (Utah State Archives and Records Services). Be sure to mention the Series number when inquiring about this particular set of records.

Most records held by the Utah State Archives are not indexed. Some creating agencies may have indexed records series, but frequently these are found as an index at the beginning or end of an individual volume, or as a separate records series. Such indexes are then available in paper or on microfilm.

A few series are indexed electronically. These indexes may only index part of a series--particularly if there is already an index available in paper or microfilm to the remainder of the series. Occasional electronic indexes index an entire series.
